Dangerous Goods Incident (DGI)
Controller to ensure the following core actions have been completed:
Ensure that all relevant calls pertaining to the incident are prefixed: ‘THIS IS A RAIL DANGEROUS GOODS EMERGENCY’.
Location/line/train headcode and time.
Advise the controlling Signaller of any potential Dangerous Goods Incident and ensure the safety of the line.The signaller, or the person in charge, to stop all
movements on adjacent lines, unless you are sure there is no
damage to wagons conveying the dangerous goods.
Come to a clear understanding of the nature of the issue and ascertain whether the emergency services are required.
Make a TOPS F4 consist enquiry (‘V’ from a TRUST TRJC output) to confirm the presence and position of any dangerous goods.
Confirm if the train is conveying an Irradiated Fuel Flask. If so ask the mandated questions:
Is the flask wagon derailed? Yes/No
Has the flask wagon been involved in a collision? Yes/No
Is there a fire near the flask? Yes/No
Are large quantities of liquefied petroleum gas, petroleum or other flammable liquids present? Yes/No
Is there any visible damage to the flask or to the cover (if fitted)? Yes/No
Advise MOM/LOM and appoint as RIO
Request emergency services to site, if required, passing details of the commodity involved and its location on the train.

Advise the FOC involved.
Advise the ‘Specialist Advice’ of the incident. They may attend or pass advice on managing the incident. Contact details can be gained by making a TOPS enquiry from an F12 screen:

If the incident is significant, ensure that the relevant command structure is set up
If damage to the infrastructure has resulted, ensure that a fault has been logged in FMS.
