Bridge Strikes
Controller to ensure the following core actions have been completed:
For underline bridges:
Red – No movement until inspection.
Amber – Examine the line 5mph, subsequent trains at 20mph
Double Amber – Examine the line 5mph, subsequent trains at normal speed.
Green – No restriction.
For overline bridges: there are no dispensations: However, first train examines at 5 mph and subsequent trains at 20 mph if no debris affecting the running of trains, until bridge is inspected.
Bridge number/location/Reporters name and contact number
ELR/Mileage and road name
Type of vehicle/Registration/driver/owner. Is the vehicle still on site? Is it wedged? (LV - does dispensation apply?)
Are there any people trapped in the vehicle?
Is the vehicle on fire?
Is the vehicle carrying dangerous goods?
Advise signal box and determine classification of bridge
Is the bridge an overline or underline bridge
Establish method of working
Advise MOM/LOM to site. Request ETA. Consider use of Pway staff
Advise Civil Police. Record reference number
Advise Structures Engineer to arrange for BSN to carry out an inspect -Red Bridge Only *See Notes*
Contact Route Engineering team arrange for a remote review with MOM via video call if required.
MOM’s reports to be sent to our generic email LNEClaims@networkrail.co.uk.
Advise TOC/FOC -Apply contingency plans if significant
Update CCIL & send a Tyrell message
Advise NOC
If wedged under protection beam , trains permitted to continue.
