Spillages
Controller to ensure the following core actions have been completed:
- 1Establish name of the person reporting the incident and contact number
- 2Function/contractor responsible for incident
- 3Date and approximate time the incident occurred
- 4The exact location of the incident
What is the spillage - Estimated volume
Does the spillage affect the condition of the railhead
Is the spillage affecting or likely to affect a nearby watercourse, reservoir or drainage system
Is the location a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)
Can the spillage be contained with a spill kit & has the reporter got a spill kit to deal with spillage.
Dispatch MOM and appoint as RIO to establish whether there is a risk of or has been a spillage or other environmental incident
Route Control shall request the attendance of the Emergency Spill Response Contractor (ESRC) to deal with the incident if the incident is likely to affect watercourse, property or land.
Environmental incidents involving Route locations or plant shall be reported to SCO 24/7 (Route Services Supply Chain Operations) immediately.
Advise the Environmental Agency (0800 807060) See table below
Advise Canal and Rivers Trust (0800 4799947) if there is a significant risk of pollution to water course.
Route Control to complete Environmental Incident report Form 4.14F
Once completed, forward the form to:
- Workforce Health, Safety and Environment Advisor (Route)
- Safety Reporting Team
- Environmental Representative (Route)
Upload a copy of the form onto the relevant safety reporting system within 24 hours of the incident occurring.
Ensure that the NOC advise RAIB if required.
Record in CCIL & issue Tyrell message if necessary.
